CHATGPT-4O JUST GOT A MAJOR UPGRADE ON MOBILE — NOW YOU CAN KEEP TALKING WHILE USING OTHER APPS

OpenAI has quietly rolled out a significant enhancement to its ChatGPT mobile app, introducing the ability to engage in continuous conversations with ChatGPT Voice even while using other applications or when the screen is off. This feature, found under "Background Conversations" in the "Voice Mode" settings, allows users to interact with the AI voice assistant seamlessly in the background.

This update is a precursor to the upcoming GPT-4o Voice, which is set to release in the next few weeks. Unlike the current model which does speech to text and vice versa, GPT-4o Voice will utilize direct speech-to-speech technology, promising faster and more natural interactions. On iPhones, users can access ChatGPT Voice via the dynamic island, although occasional errors may occur due to system load or previous outages.

The new functionality offers practical applications, such as asking questions, checking spelling, generating ideas, and even providing game tips. It also proves useful for translation assistance while travelling. Overall, this upgrade enhances the user experience by enabling multitasking and more efficient use of the AI assistant, paving the way for the more advanced Omni voice technology.
