The One-Page AI Disclosure Policy
The copy-paste policy that makes your AI content legal in the EU — and trustworthy everywhere else.

Yesterday I showed you the 30-minute audit for the EU AI Act's transparency rules, which — surprise — went live August 2 while everyone was reading about the delay. The audit tells you where you're exposed. Today is the fix. Most companies don't need a compliance program for this — they need one page that says what gets labeled, what the label says, and who owns the call. Write the page, name the owner, and you've converted a €15 million question into a laminated sheet.
Here's the policy. Fill in the brackets and ship it:
AI CONTENT DISCLOSURE POLICY — [COMPANY NAME]
Owner: [NAME, TITLE] · Effective: [DATE] · Review: quarterly
1. CONVERSATIONAL AI
Every customer-facing chatbot, voice agent, or AI avatar identifies
itself as AI in its first message or greeting.
Standard line: "You're talking with [COMPANY]'s AI assistant."
If a human takes over, the handoff is announced. No exceptions,
including sales and outbound.
2. SYNTHETIC MEDIA
AI-generated or AI-edited images, audio, or video that a reasonable
person could mistake for real people, places, or events carry a
visible label at first exposure.
Standard label: "Created with AI" (caption, overlay, or credit line).
Stylized illustration and obvious design work: no label required.
When buying creative, we ask vendors whether files carry C2PA
Content Credentials and keep the answer on file.
3. AI-ASSISTED TEXT
Published articles, newsletters, and reports drafted with AI are
reviewed by a human editor before release. [EDITOR NAME] holds
editorial responsibility and is named on the masthead/about page.
Content that skips human review is labeled "AI-generated."
ESCALATION
Unsure whether something needs a label? Label it, then ask
[OWNER NAME]. Disclosure is never the wrong default.
Sample output (the policy in action — a support-bot greeting and an image credit after adoption):
"Hi — you're talking with Brightline's AI assistant. I can handle
most billing and shipping questions; ask for a person anytime."

What changes: You stop relitigating "does this need a label?" one asset at a time in Slack. The policy makes the call once, the owner handles the edge cases, and every new hire and agency gets the same one page instead of your legal team's phone number.
Where else this works: Investor updates and board decks that use AI-drafted sections. Agency and freelancer contracts — attach the page as an exhibit. Internal comms, where disclosure builds more trust than it costs. RFP responses, where "here's our AI disclosure policy" is quietly becoming a differentiator.
The hook is real and the clock is running: the EU's transparency obligations for chatbots, synthetic media, and AI-assisted text have been in force since August 2, with the last grace period — machine-readable watermarking for older systems — expiring December 2. Tomorrow's Deep Dive covers how we got here and what the 2027 timeline means for your roadmap. Today, fill in four brackets and put a name on the page. That's the advantage.
