APPLE HALTS AI TECH ROLLOUT IN EU MARKET DUE TO REGULATORY CONCERNS
Apple has announced that it will not roll out its new AI features, including iPhone Mirroring, SharePlay Screen Sharing enhancements, and Apple Intelligence, to European users this year. The decision comes amid regulatory uncertainties stemming from the European Union's Digital Markets Act (DMA), which aims to ensure that companies like Apple do not abuse their market power.
Apple expressed concerns that the interoperability requirements of the DMA could force the company to compromise the integrity of its products, potentially risking user privacy and data security. The company is committed to collaborating with the European Commission to find a solution that would enable the rollout of these features without compromising user safety.
The delay is likely to affect the rollout of these features in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, which are expected to be shipped later this year. Apple had previously unveiled these features at WWDC 2024, but the regulatory hurdles have led to the delay in their EU rollout. The company remains committed to making these technologies accessible to all users, but the regulatory uncertainties have forced it to hold back on the EU rollout for now.
