ALCON SUES ELON MUSK, TESLA, & WBD OVER ‘BLADE RUNNER 2049’ COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT

Alcon Entertainment, the production company behind "Blade Runner 2049," has filed a lawsuit against Tesla, Elon Musk, and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) for alleged copyright infringement. The lawsuit claims that AI-generated images depicting scenes from the film were used during Tesla's recent Robotaxi launch event, despite Alcon’s explicit refusal to grant permission.

The images, including likenesses of Ryan Gosling’s character and the film’s futuristic car, were featured in the global presentation. Alcon argues that this misled viewers into believing the film had endorsed Tesla’s product, which the company strongly opposed. Alcon accuses Musk and Tesla of acting in bad faith by intentionally using elements from “Blade Runner 2049” to enhance the presentation and promote Tesla’s Robotaxi.

The lawsuit seeks an injunction to stop the unauthorised use of the film’s imagery, along with unspecified monetary damages. Additionally, Alcon expresses concern over the potential confusion this could cause with its brand partners, particularly as it prepares to release its "Blade Runner 2099" series.

The complaint also highlights Musk’s controversial behaviour as a factor that further complicates brand partnerships with Tesla. Alcon believes Musk's actions and political views could harm future collaborations, adding to the company’s grievances in the lawsuit.
