AI TOP STORY

What Happens After Agentic AI?

Blink And You’ll Miss The Next AI Phase

Remember when ChatGPT was the hot new thing? Then it was all about copilots. Now the buzzword of the moment is agentic AI. And yes, all of this has happened in under three years.

It sounds ridiculous until you look around and realize that Adobe, Oracle, Deloitte, OpenAI, Microsoft, Salesforce, and AWS have all launched agentic AI platforms in the past few months. Some marketers are still figuring out how copilots fit into their stack, and suddenly we’re talking about autonomous agents making decisions on their own. At this rate, we’ll be on to the next big thing before some teams finish their AI onboarding decks.

But here’s the thing. Agentic AI might actually have staying power. Unlike a lot of AI buzzwords, this one comes with some real benefits. We’re talking about systems that don’t just assist but take action. They plan, reason, and operate with minimal human input. In theory, they create efficiencies that could seriously impact both the bottom and top line.

If this tech is going to matter long term, it needs to be interoperable. Agents have to talk to each other, work across ecosystems, and access data from outside their native platforms. Without that kind of collaboration, agentic AI just becomes another smart idea stuck in a silo.

For now, it's early days. Some of these agents will quietly become part of how we work, running in the background like map apps or CRM automations. Others may fizzle out or get renamed into something more digestible. And there's already speculation about what comes next. Will agents begin to set their own goals based on shifting business priorities? Could they adapt strategies in real time without predefined rules or human prompts? Maybe the next generation won't just act on instructions, but actively shape the direction of campaigns, products, or even entire business models.

The buzzwords may keep changing, but the pace of evolution is only speeding up.
